Bruce’s Place at Pine Ave
This project was on a particularly steep block with limited access. Therefore, everything had to be brought by hand. The clients asked for a lawn area for the grandchildren to play on and some steps to make access to the rear gate possible.
We built some large format steps in to the slopping block, that amble down the slope from treated pine sleepers filled with compacted decomposed granite. This earthy material blends in with the landscape to soften the normal hard surface that steps are commonly made from. The rest of the slope was then planted out and mulched to retain soil moisture and to prevent erosion of the site. The top area was then retained and filled, so that a turf area could be established.
Cobblestone
The clients on this project wanted to cover up the gravel drive they had as access to their amazing home. We therefore levelled of the existing drive that was already heavily compacted from many years of vehicle traffic, then screeded a bed for the coble to sit in. The cobbles were then laid out in the desired pattern then the edges were retained with a reinforced concrete edge. Sand was then swept into the gaps to hold the cobble in place.
Timber Privacy Screen
This project involved two apartments with the front one facing the street. To gain privacy for the front apartment’s courtyard, a hardwood timber screen was installed to achieve a secluded private sunny space for the owners to enjoy. The surrounding gardens were also planted out to provide further screening as well as provide a green facade between the street and the grassed courtyard. A hardwood arbour was installed over the main entrance to both apartments to serve as an informal entry way.
Landscaping around pool area
We really enjoy working around pools; the extra element of water lifts a landscape and makes paving and other surfaces really stand out. In this project, we attached some bullnose pavers for the coping on top of the pool then a timber deck was added to marry up to the outdoor entertaining area. Slate stack stone was used to veneer the fibreglass water feature. It looks and sounds great with the moving water shooting out into the pool. The bright blue of the pool brings the great colours of the timber out in this landscape.
Playground for Fox Street Pre-School
This Playground was created for Fox Street Pre-School at Ballina. The brief was to get more playing room for the school's children out of the available space as well as to provide a hard surface where tables could be set up without being in the lawn area. Another aim was to rectify the drainage problem as the front of the building area used to flood in times of heavy rain and to provide as much lawn area for the children to run around on since there only dirt patches were in the yard when the project started.
This project included installing new drainage to the stormwater system to allow water to drain away and building a new stone retaining wall / seating area. We laid new paving to create the hard surface area for chairs and tables a lot bigger. We then built a new mud pit for the children to play in with self-closing taps. That way, the children can control the water in the mud pit area without wasting water. Next, we set about sculpting the area to give the children a nice hill to roll down and turfed the whole area with a hard wearing soft leaf buffalo for the children to play on. The children now love the new area along with a great lawn to run around.
Timber Curved Retaining Wall on Sloping Site
This client had a very sloping site and wanted to level as much of the area as possible to make it usable as well as to add gardens in a few spots with a variety of plants.
We set out firstly with the retaining. We wanted to get a curved structure off of the block wall therefore, we used galvanised flat metal bar that was curved off site and brought in, which were supported by steel posts in the ground. We then attached vertical hardwood sleepers to form the wall. The rest of the retaining was done with hardwood sleepers and concrete coloured blocks. Lastly, we planted out the gardens on mass with many colourful tropical plants to give the garden some colour and character.
